Selmar W. Hess Obituary

Selmar W. “Beau” Hess, Jr., 70, of East Berlin, PA, passed away, Monday, March 11, 2019 at home with his loving family by his side.

Born September 10, 1948, in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Selmar W., Sr. and Phyllis E. (Fry) Hess.   Selmar was the loving husband of Susan K. (Roth) Hess, with whom he shared thirty years of marriage.

Selmar was a 1966 graduate of Gettysburg High School, and a graduate of Penn State University, where he earned a master’s degree.

Selmar was a veteran, having served his country proudly as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. 

Selmar was a systems analyst with the Department of Defense for forty-four years until his retirement.  He was a Free & Accepted Mason, Past Master of Blue Lodge, and a Past High Priest of his masonic chapter.

Selmar enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved the Big Bang Theory, long rides through the mountains, going on trips, travelling and woodworking.

In addition to his loving wife, Susan, Selmar is survived by his children, Hannah Hess and her boyfriend Nick Newman of Charlestown, SC, Jen Hess and her partner Joy Steinhart of East Berlin, PA, Andrew Hess and his fiancée Kristin Smith of Carlisle, PA, Chris Hess and his wife Becky of Waynesboro, PA, and Nate Summers and his wife Carissa of York Haven, PA; two grandchildren, Lauren Hess and Paije Baucum; and a sister, Bonnie Hess Shockey of Millersville, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.   

Following cremation, a graveside service to celebrate and remember Selmar will be held at 3:00PM, Friday, March 15, 2019 at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA.
