Shelby J. Forbes

Shelby J. Forbes, 86, formerly of Hanover, PA, entered into God's eternal care Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at her home in Suffolk, VA.

Born March 30, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant, PA, she was the daughter of the late Simon H. and Emma J. (Pitzer) Beard.  She was the loving wife of the late Ray L. Forbes with whom she shared 48 years of marriage until his death on September 30, 2006.

Shelby was a seamstress for Middleburg Manufacturing for over 40 years until her retirement.

Shelby enjoyed playing cards, reading novels and spending time with her family and friends.

Shelby is survived by two sons, Jerry A. Forbes and his wife Lucinda Ann of Suffolk, VA, and Brian L. Forbes and wife Dorrie of Hanover, PA, four grandchildren, Justice Forbes, Carly Goodfellow, Nicholas Forbes, and Dawn Forbes, two great-grandchildren, Jax and Lily Goodfellow, and seven siblings, Viola C. Beard, Raymond L. Beard, Kenneth E. Beard, Goldie A. Beard, Francis L. “Jake” Beard, Shirley M. Beard, Helen L. Beard, and Freddie R. Beard.  She was preceded in death by one grandson, Tyler R. Forbes, and nine siblings, Simon H. Beard, Jr., Irvin D. Beard, Roy N. Beard, Robert J. Beard, William H. Beard, John E. Beard, Margaret V. Beard, Thomas E. Beard, and Kenneth E. Beard.  

A graveside service to celebrate and remember Shelby will be held 10 AM, Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in Mount Olivet Cemetery, 725 Baltimore Street, Hanover, PA, with the Reverend Stevie Krenzer officiating.
