Shelia A. Jordan, 73, of New Oxford, PA, entered God’s eternal care Sunday, May 11, 2025, at home with her loving family by her side.
Born September 4, 1951, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Eldon A. and Janet W. Akerley. Shelia was the loving wife of Herb V. Jordan, III, with whom she celebrated 47 years of marriage.
In addition to her loving husband, Shelia is survived by two children, Natalie (Jordan) Sutcliffe and her husband Sean of Plymouth Meeting, PA, and Casey L. Jordan of York, PA, and “Amma” to four grandchildren, Jackson Sutcliffe, Jayma Sutcliffe, Wilson Jordan, and Henry Jordan who were her pride and joy. Shelia leaves behind two siblings, Al Akerley of Baltimore, MD, and Julie Akerley of Spring Grove, PA.
Shelia was a 1969 graduate of South Western High School, Hanover, PA, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Elementary Education from York College of PA, and a Master of Education from Penn State University.
Mrs. Jordan was a beloved teacher with the Hanover Public School District for fifteen years until her retirement in 2013, and worked at the Lincoln Intermediate Unit for ten years, teaching for the summer migrant program. She previously worked at Hanover Hardware & Sporting Goods, and as a dispatcher for the Hanover Borough Police Department.
Shelia was a member of the Hanover Cyclers, serving as a former secretary, and volunteered at the Hanover YWCA Safe Home for 10 years.
Shelia traveled west as much as she could and visited many National Parks, was an avid gardener, a voracious reader, loved kayaking, crocheting and doing crafts. She was a wonderful friend and neighbor, and was generous to a fault. Shelia often bought strangers lunch, said “hi friend” to people passing by, or gave compliments to brighten someone’s day. Shelia raised and rescued many pets throughout her life including her dog and two cats. Shelia loved nature and found beauty in the little things. She was kind, funny, and thoughtful and will be forever missed.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests doing a random act of kindness in Shelia’s memory.
The Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA has been entrusted by the family with the funeral arrangements. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.kenworthyfh.com.
