Shirley A. Carbaugh, 90, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Homewood of Plum Creek.
Born April 30, 1935, in Hanover, PA, she was a daughter of the late Francis W. and Anna May (Klunk) Miller. Shirley was the beloved wife of Francis B. “Frank” Carbaugh, to whom she married November 19, 1955.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Delone Catholic High School. She worked in retail selling cards and giftware for both Rea & Derick and WalMart, retiring with 40 years of service. She was also a talented seamstress, making wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses, and majorette uniforms.
She was a current parishioner at Sacred Heart Basilica. When her children were growing up, she was a cub scout and girl scout leader for troops in New Oxford. Shirley enjoyed knitting, crocheting, arranging flowers, and most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to Frank, her husband of almost 70 years, she is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Merck and husband, Richard of North Haven, CT, Beth McMaster and companion, Curtis Phillips of Hanover, PA, Julia Brady and husband, David, also of Hanover, PA, and daughter-in-law, Sheryl Carbaugh of Sundance, WY; three sisters, Mary Catherine Adams of Virginia Beach, VA, Linda Wennemer of Vincentown, NJ, and Jayne Hertz of York, PA; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Eric Carbaugh, and her sister, Margaret Goldstein.
The family would like to thank the staff at Homewood for the loving care they gave Shirley over the past seven months.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Drive, Hanover, PA, with Father Dwight Schlaline as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6 – 8 PM, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to Sacred Heart Basilica – Renovation Program, 30 Basilica Drive, Hanover, PA 17331.
