With great sadness we announce that Timothy J. Elder, Col, USAF (Ret.), 78, of Hanover, PA, departed this life on Sunday, September 15, 2024, with his loving family by his side.
Born July 16, 1946, in Brookville, PA, he was the son of the late Leonard and Phyllis (Love) Elder. Tim was the loving husband of Lucy J. (Freas) Elder with whom he shared fifty-six years of marriage.
Tim was a graduate of Clarion-Limestone HS. He earned a BS in Business from Penn State University (AFROTC '68), and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Central Michigan University.
Tim was a proud United States Air Force veteran. While serving in Vietnam he was an Aeromedical Evacuation Officer. He retired after thirty years as a member of the Medical Service Corps. He then continued to serve his community as the Superintendent of the Mt. Vernon, Ohio Developmental Center for 10 years.
As a devoted volunteer, Tim gave generously of his time everywhere he lived. A few examples of his commitments include: President of the Rotary Club, Treasurer for Habitat for Humanity, and Salvation Army board member. He served as the secretary and treasurer for his church, Campaign Chair for the United Way and the Chairman of the Board at the Fisher-Nightingale House.
Tim enjoyed spending time with his family. Together, they enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, woodworking, and traveling. He also worked on and collected classic cars and liked to research family ancestry. Tim cherished family gatherings and attending his grandchildren's events.
In addition to his loving wife, Lucy, Tim is survived by three sons: Nathaniel J. Elder (Michelle) of Glen Arm, MD; Mitchell J. Elder, Col, USAF (Ret.) (Katherine) of Severna Park, MD; and Darrick J. Elder (Pahola)of Catonsville, MD; eight grandchildren: Joel (Norweice), Christopher, Mia, Gavin, Samuel, Adam, Evelyn, and Eleanor), and four great-grandchildren (Hilah, Adiah, Sophiah, Zakaryah).
A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00AM, Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA. A service will follow at 11:00AM, with Rev Scott Sager officiating. The burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA, with The Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard Burial Detail providing Military Honors.
