Wade Hampton Rigsby, Sr., 74, of Hanover, PA, passed away after a long illness, Friday, July 2, 2021, at the Gettysburg Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Wade managed his illness with great strength and grace.
Born March 7, 1947, in Marion, Indiana, he was the son of Betty (Adkins) Rigsby and the late Paul Rigsby. Wade was the loving husband of the late Heloise J. (Severtson) Rigsby who died February 13, 2010.
Wade is survived by two sons, Wade H. Rigsby, Jr. and wife Brenda of Hanover, PA, and Roger Rigsby of Leesburg, IN; five grandchildren, Alisa Honea, Catelyn Rigsby, Aliyah Rigsby, Jalyn Rigsby, and Payton Rigsby; two great-grandchildren, Amaya and Delilah; and three siblings, Paul M. Rigsby, Tammara Pauley, and Joe Rigsby. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Rigsby.
Wade served his country proudly in the United States Air Force as a Security Policeman and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion of Hanover-Post #14, and the VFW of Hanover-Post #2506.
Wade was a loving Father, Husband, Grandfather, and Friend to everyone. His sons called their Dad a superhero, and even as adults, still see him that way. He was always there for a ‘pat on the back’ or a ‘kick in the pants’, and taught by example to be good, hardworking men.
Wade loved sports, especially Indiana Hoosier basketball and the Chicago Bears. He worked as a general contractor for 35 years, but was forced to give up the career he loved due to his health. Wade was always willing to sacrifice his personal needs to be there to help relatives and friends with household projects, or whatever people needed from him.
Following cremation, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
The Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA has been entrusted by the family with the funeral arrangements. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.kenworthyfh.com.
