Warren Davis, Jr. Obituary

Warren T. Davis, Jr., “Sandy”, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care Friday, January 19, 2024, at home with his loving sons by his side.

Born May 18, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, Sandy was the son of the late Warren T., Sr., and Charlotte (Cathcart) Davis. He was the loving husband of Priscilla F. (Fagan) Davis, with whom he shared almost 60 years of marriage.

The oldest of five siblings, Sandy enjoyed a childhood spent knee-deep in the edges of the Chesapeake at Rock Hall, hitting stones into the bay with a baseball bat. He was proud to play third baseman for the Owings Mills Oaks. For six straight weeks, he hit six home runs during the sixth inning. He held his “eight day a week” job as a paperboy from the 7th through the 11th grade, accompanied by his “All-American” dog Mister, who knew the route by heart.

Married on July 4, 1963, to Priscilla, they raised five sons: Tracy, Drew, John, Creston, and Tim. Sandy worked many jobs to provide for his wife and family, including a firefighter from 1967-1999, a farmer, and a golf instructor. Delighted by knowledge of all sorts, he appeared an expert in everything, including theology. His 14 grandchildren always say that when Google has a question, they call him.

Somehow, he made the best cup of coffee from a simple bag of Folgers. From his porch, he made daily feasts of seed and peanut butter for the songbirds. On the golf course, he also met more than his fair share of birdies. He recorded an 18-hole score at South Hills Golf Course that matched his age at the time: 67.

Married almost 60 years until “Pris’s” death in 2022, he enjoyed surprising his dear wife with small things—teatime on the porch—and big things—a 15-foot Valentine’s Day card spray painted on their white garage.

In addition to his sons, surviving Sandy are his sisters Cathy, Bonny, and Jeanne; his brother Gary, his grandchildren Kate, Corey, Nick, Jack, Scott, Heather, Jonah, Joel, Jeremy, Joshua, Asher, Isak, Ellie, and Kipp. His great-grandchildren are Levi, Sarah, Liam, Luke, Keria, and Harper.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Sandy’s life will be held 10 AM, Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory Inc, 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA 17331, with his Pastor, Steve Badorf, officiating.
