Willard “Willie” Hayes Carver, 82, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Friday, June 2, 2023, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born September 24, 1940, in Alexandria, VA, Willie was the son of the late Broadus Hayes & Hazel Regina (Robey) Carver. He was the loving husband to Lori Lynn (Arentz) Carver with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.
Willie was a graduate of George Washington High School in Alexandria, VA, class of 1958.
Willie was a veteran and served his country proudly, as he entered the U.S. Navy after high school. During his service, he was stationed on the USS Intrepid, a famous aircraft carrier also known as The Fighting “I” and reached the rank of third-class petty officer.
After leaving the Navy, Willie became a store manager for A&P Food Stores for the next 20 years. He then moved on to managing McDonald’s restaurants in Walkersville and Emmitsburg, MD. He was the store manager at the Famous Hot Weiner on Broadway in Hanover, PA for four years. Willie then went back to McDonald’s and managed the store in Taneytown, MD until he finally retired in 2007.
In his free time, Willie loved watching his children play soccer over the years. He also liked watching football and baseball and spending his time with his loving family.
Willie attended First United Methodist Church in Hanover, PA, which was also where he and Lori were married in 1995.
In addition to his loving wife Lori, Willie is survived by his children, Megan E. Carver and Matthew F. Carver, both of Hanover, PA, as well as his siblings, Shirley Hook of Alexandria, VA, Timothy Carver of Stafford, VA, and Diana Harrison of Christiansburg, VA. Willie was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Rickard.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Willie’s life will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA 17331, with Reverend Todd Christine officiating. Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be from 10-11 AM, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, also at the funeral home.
