William "Bill" A. Wherley

William Albert “Bill” Wherley, 86, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at UPMC Hanover.

Born in Hanover, PA, on March 9, 1936, Bill was the son of the late Allen Albert & Ethel Marie (Weikert) Wherley. He was the loving husband of Madeline Dorothy (Warner) Wherley with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.   

Bill was a veteran and served his country proudly in the US Army.

Bill was a truck driver. He recalled learning to drive when he was about 13 and continued to drive trucks for the Army and following his honorable discharge from the military. He worked for Consolidated Freightway for many years until his retirement.

Bill was a member of Harvest Time Temple in Hanover, PA.

In his free time, Bill enjoyed building birdhouses, listening to gospel music, going to the cabin, and spending time with his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Madeline, Bill is survived by his children, Peggy Lee Mummert of Glenville, PA, and Daniel Albert Wherley & wife Lucille Edna of New Oxford, PA, 8 grandchildren; Tony Mummert, Christina Wagner, Michelle Worley, Joseph Wherley, Calah Wherley, Amanda Rummel, Shawn Bair, and Angela Laudermilk. He also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his siblings, Donald Wherley, James Wherley, Helen (Wherley) Bollinger, Shirley (Wherley) Werner, Nancy (Wherley) Plunkett, and Linda Wherley. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Jean Bair, as well as 10 of his siblings; Richard Wherley, Ray Wherley, Robert Wherley, Fred Wherley, Herbert Wherley, John Wherley, David Wherley, Ruth (Wherley) Yohe, Evelyn (Wherley) Workman, and Dorothy Mae Wherley, and his son-in-law, Dale Mummert.

A funeral service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, July 25, 2022, at Harvest Time Temple Church, 700 Black Rock Road, Hanover, PA 17331, with his Pastor the Reverend Fred Mummert officiating. Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard detail. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be 10 - 11 AM, Monday, July 25, 2022, at the church.
