Pearl Constance Hess (Connie), 91, of New Oxford, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, PA.

Born August 19, 1924 in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Alexander P. and Grace A. (Garman) Hetrick. She was the former wife of the late Eugene F. Hess of Cressona and Elizabethtown, PA.

Connie was a graduate of Eichelberger High School and Elizabethtown College. She served as an elementary school teacher at Elizabethtown Elementary School and in the Blue Mountain School District in PA for a combined total of 25 years. She was known for the many dramatic plays she produced while a teacher, and was loved by many of her students. She was also a member of the National Education Association.

Connie was a member of the Elizabethtown and Hanover Church of the Brethren, and taught Sunday School for many years. She will be remembered for her strong faith, deep commitment to family, and her servant heart in preparing beautiful gourmet meals for family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters Pamela A. Hess, companion of Bob Lilley of Wilmington, DE, and Deborah S. Vail, wife of Douglas J. Vail, of Strasburg, PA; her grandchildren Shana L. Baloche, Michael E. Barba, Mary C. Barba; her great-grandchildren Elise, Isaac, Maurice, Juden and Colette Baloche; and her sister Jeanne E. Bunty of Hanover, PA. She was preceded in death by her brother Kenneth Hetrick.

A funeral service to remember Connie’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Hanover Church of the Brethren, 601 Wilson Avenue, Hanover, PA with Rev. Geraldine Godfrey officiating. Interment immediately following the service will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA. There will be a time of visitation with the family on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Hanover Church of the Brethren from 10:30 AM until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Connie may be made to the Hanover Church of the Brethren, 601 Wilson Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331 or to the Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford, PA 17350.
