Received word of Uncle Bob’s passing one hour after his funeral. Bearer of the sad tidings was my sister, Judy, in Littlestown. who no longer gets the paper and learned of his death from her two granddaughters a few minutes earlier. Strange that none of our Hanover cousins informed us, some of whom we have dined with in the company of Uncle Bob and Aunt Mary in recent months and attended all Ernst family funerals with in recent years.. Bob’s favorite brother, my dad,, George, first of the four Ernst brothers to die, wouldn’t have understood. My sincere sorrow to Aunt Mary and cousin Bill [whom I haven’t seen or talked to in 65 years]. I’ll remember Uncle Bob’s kindness to me, his charming, debonair personality and the poker games in his basement on Middle Street. Farewell, Uncle Bob. So sorry we weren’t there to participate in your last appearance.
